Third Sunday of Advent

Family Faith Sharing
Third Sunday of Advent
Year C:

Powerful God, through your grace our wrongdoings can be useful to spread joy and light to others. Let us see the good in ourselves, and the good in others, through your eyes. Show us how even hurt can be transformed to joy through love. Amen.

Reading: Luke 3:7-18

Joy. Gaudete.
In this reading, John the baptist tells the crowds that being a descendant doesn’t mean they will automatically escape God’s judgement. They have to live a life reflective of God’s love towards their ancestors, towards their people.
How can you show others the love of God?

“And on that day you shall say, *
    Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name;
Make his deeds known among the peoples; *
    see that they remember that his Name is exalted.” Isaiah 12:4 (If the attention spans are there, read the whole song of Isaiah, vs 2-6)

Prayers: {share prayers that are on our hearts}

God, we thank you for the gift of each other, and the grace share your love to others, even through our mistakes. Help us remember you, in the fun, and in the not so fun. Help us to love each other, especially during this chaotic season of preparation. Help us to slow down, and be still. Amen.

Blessing: Our Lord Jesus Christ be with us to defend us, within us to keep us, before us to lead us, beside us to guard us, and above us to bless us. Amen. (New Zealand Prayer Book)

*As a family, we have been discussing the readings in a simplified “Lectio Divina” style. Here is a link of what that might look like, though we just ask questions and do the rest our own way.
