Second Sunday of Advent, Year C

Family Faith Sharing
Second Sunday of Advent
Year C:

Prayer:
Merciful God, you speak to us at all times, but only sometimes do we listen. Grant that we, setting aside our distractions, can be present with each other this day. Help us to hear your voice, and heed your call, before we end up in the wilderness. Amen.

Reading: Luke 3:1-6

Lesson:
Peace. According to the reading, the word of God came to John in the wilderness. Have you ever gone through a difficult time? Do you think about God then? (I do, usually yelling at him for letting me go through it!)
Do you think about God when you’re playing, or doing something fun? Like John, God can reach us in the wilderness. But, at least for me, I’m too distracted when things are “good” to remember God.

Psalm:
“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.” Luke 1:68 (If the attention spans are there, read the whole song of Zechariah, vs 68-79)

Prayers: {share prayers that are on our hearts}

God, we thank you for the gift of each others’ company, and the grace to accept when we don’t live up to our own earthly expectations. Help us remember you, in the fun, and in the not so fun. Help us to be at peace with each other, especially during this chaotic season of preparation. Help us to slow down, and be still. Amen.

Blessing: Our Lord Jesus Christ be with us to defend us, within us to keep us, before us to lead us, beside us to guard us, and above us to bless us. Amen. (New Zealand Prayer Book)

*As a family, we have been discussing the readings in a simplified “Lectio Divina” style. Here is a link of what that might look like, though we just ask questions and do the rest our own way.
